GMT900 & K2XX · Driver-side install

Your tailgate weighs 65 pounds. Nothing is catching it.

Two factory cables and a pair of hinges absorb the full drop, every single time. One hydraulic strut takes that load instead — and it bolts on in about ten minutes.

NOT SURE WHICH BODY STYLE? Open the driver's door and read the plate on the jamb. 2014 trucks were sold in both styles — “Silverado 1500” is the new K2XX body, “Silverado 1500 Classic” is the older GMT900. This kit covers both.

DOES NOT FIT: Colorado / Canyon, Avalanche, or trucks already running a factory dampened tailgate.
Why it matters

What the drop is actually costing you

The tailgate doesn't fail on one slam. It fails on four years of them, and the bill shows up all at once.

Bent hinge brackets

The full 65 lbs lands on two small welded brackets. They deform slowly, then the gate stops sitting square.

$180 – $340
Stretched support cables

Factory cables are sized to hold the gate, not to catch it. Stretched cables let the gate hang low; snapped ones let it fall.

$95 – $210
Chipped corners & rust

Every impact chips paint where the gate meets the bed. Bare steel plus road salt doesn't stay small.

Spreads

One strut costs less than the cheapest line on that list.

The part a shop installs is the part in this box. The difference on the invoice is who holds the wrench.

Install

Three steps, driver's side only

No drilling. No cutting. No wiring. The mounting points are already on your truck.

Step 01

Drop the gate

Lower the tailgate all the way and pull the factory pivot pin on the driver's side. It slides straight out.

Step 02

Seat the bracket

Slide the strut bracket over the pin and push the pin back into place. It sits where the factory hardware already sits.

Step 03

Snug two bolts

Tighten the two supplied bolts, close the gate once to seat the strut, and you're finished.

TOOLS REQUIRED: one adjustable wrench (or 13mm socket). That's the entire list.

Questions

Before you order

How do I know it fits my truck?

Match your year and model against the fitment plate above. If it's listed, it fits with no modification. The 2014 model year is the only one that trips people up — it was sold in both body styles, and this kit covers both.

Do I need to drill anything?

No. The strut mounts to the factory pivot pin and existing hardware points. Nothing is drilled, cut, or wired.

One strut or two?

One. It mounts on the driver's side and handles the full weight of the gate. A second strut isn't needed and would fight the first one.

Will it work with my bed cover or liner?

Yes. The strut sits inside the bed rail line, below where a cover mounts, and clears both drop-in and spray-in liners.

What if it doesn't fit or I don't like it?

Send it back within 60 days and we refund the full amount. Keep the box if you can, but we won't turn you away over it.

Stop the slam this weekend

Ten minutes in the driveway, one wrench, and the gate lowers itself from here on.
